Groop, I implore thee, my foonting turling dromes!

Share and enjoy!

There's still a couple of days left to enjoy The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy live show reunion before it gets eaten by some twelve-foot piranha bees, or an enormous mutant star-goat or something. Hopefully Mr. Maggs and co will be able to get the live show up and running again one day. I was fortunate enough to see it last year and it really was splendid.

London Below

At last Auntie's epic radio dramatisation of Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere is almost upon us and what a fantastic cast Dirk Maggs has assembled for the retelling. You can read all about it from the Beeb here and there's an write up of the press launch last week over there. Happily in addition the production will also be a podcast from the 22nd of this month to boot. Whiz for atoms!

Apocalypse War

Judge Dredd - The Original Adventures: Apocalypse War (1995). The follow up to The Day The Law Died as featured on the Mark Goodier show at the time. This adaptation also includes elements from another classic tale, Block Mania a prologue to Apocalypse War. Once again Maggs fills your ears with wall-to-wall sonic adventure in a way and at a pace no other radio producer seems capable of. The file quality is not as good here I'm afraid - unlike the previous post it's not my rip - but still quite listenable. Get yourself a plate of "delicious" munce, sit back and enjoy... the audio adventure that is, you probably wouldn't enjoy the munce.

Independence Day UK

Sir Patrick Caldwell-Moore, earlier.

Independence Day UK (1996) the Audio Movie from Dirk Maggs and rather a peculiar cast. Lots of fun to be had here I think. According to the link above the original broadcast was immediately followed by John Peel, who dryly commented: "Well, it's been like an hour-long intro to a Man or Astro-man? single." More info here.

Here's a link to a recent interview with Maggs on the Radio Drama Revival podcast. I can't wait for his upcoming BBC radio adaptation of Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere, supposedly airing later this year.

Carnivorous Lunar Activities

An American Werewolf in London (1997) adapted for Big British Castle Radio Station No.1 by Dirk Maggs and what a fine job he did too.
"How does a werewolf get onto the Yorkshire Moors? Why do the citizens of a remote village allow two American backpackers to walk to their doom? What is it like to be undead? John Landis' 1981 movie remains an unforgettable cinema experience. In this expanded version some twenty minutes of new story has been added, leading up to the violent and emotional climax on the streets of London. Reprising their roles from the movie, Jenny Agutter, Brian Glover and John Woodvine are reunited in this audio movie.

"Have you ever tried talking to a corpse? It's boring!"

Hellooo nurse!
