Peter Howell - Legend. This album of ethereal electronics from 1987 sees Mr Howell building on the template set by the epic opening track from his earlier album Through A Glass Darkly. It gets rather new-agey at times but the music has far more personality and variety than that label would suggest. This could easily be the soundtrack to some mid '80's family friendly fantasy movie, long since forgotten.

Space Invaded

A sort of sister lp to BBC Records and Tapes' Space Themes, sharing a couple of tracks and  more sleeve notes from Mat Irvine. This album features one of the all time greatest sig tunes of all time - Tomorrow's World by Richard Denton and Martin Cook. Plenty of other good stuff too.

Through A Glass Darkly

Peter Howell's 1978 solo album of original compositions. File under prog suitable for test card transmissions. The title track is a 20 minute electronic fantasy epic right in keeping with Howell's incidental music for Dr Who at the time.

Recommended further listening: H & F Recordings for Howell's psych-folk albums, recorded prior to working with the Beeb. Well worth investigating.

Secrets Of The Chasm

BBC Radiophonic Workshop - 21: The 1979 21st Anniversary disc is probably my favourite RW album. It was also the hardest one to track down, at a realistic price that is. A companion programme was produced at the time for Radio 3 and can currently be listened to courtesy of Cottage Of Electric Hell! Well worth checking out, it's quite brilliant.
